FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Stutzman, Bromberg, Esserman & Plifka is proud to announce Steven A. Felsenthal, former Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Texas, has joined the firm as its newest shareholder. Judge Steven A. Felsenthal has served the Bankruptcy Bench for the Northern District of Texas for more than 18 years. He assumed his position as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Texas at Dallas on August 24, 1987, and was appointed chief judge in April 2002, a position he held until joining this firm in October 2005. His practice includes (1) financial reorganization, commercial transactions and complex litigation; (2) neutral representation as trustee, examiner and special master; and (3) alternative dispute resolution, incuding arbitration and mediation. During his tenure on the bench, Judge Felsenthal's major cases included FirstRepublic Bank Corporation, Zale Jewelry Corporation, Southmark Corporation, National Gypsum Company, Inc., General Wireless, Inc. (Metro PCS), Jayhawk Acceptance Corporation, LJM2 Co-Investment, L.P., Avado Brands, Inc. (Don Pablo Restaurants), Neostar, Inc. (Babbages), VarTec Telecom, Inc., and Excel Communications, Inc. At the request of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Judge Felsenthal mediated a resolution of the bankruptcy cases of Mcorp., Inc., and Cajun Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. Felsenthal obtained his B.A. degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, in 1971 and his J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, in Madison, in 1974. He was in private practice in Madison, Wisconsin, from 1974 to 1977. Prior to his appointment to the Bankruptcy Bench, Judge Felsenthal was the Director of the Fifth Circuit's Staff Attorney's Office in New Orleans. He served in that capacity from June 1, 1984, until his appointment. Previously, he had been a commissioner for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and was the first Chief Staff Attorney of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Felsenthal is a member of the State Bar of Texas. He served as a member of the Judicial Resources Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States from 1991-1997, and served on the Court Compensation Study Committee of the Judicial Resources Committee in 2005. He has served on the Wisconsin Judicial Council and was the reporter for its appellate rules committee. He has chaired the American Bar Association's Committee of Appellate Court Staff Attorneys. While in law school, he was an editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
