The firm, founded January 1, 1984, traces its roots to the early days of statehood when, in 1876, I. G. Bromberg founded the general store in Mineola, Texas. I. G. and Belle M. Bromberg sent their 5 children to The University of Texas at Austin, one of whom, Henri L. Bromberg, Sr., went on to The University of Texas School of Law. Upon graduation in 1904, Henri L. Bromberg, Sr. moved to Dallas and joined the firm of Etheridge and McCormick, which soon thereafter became Etheridge, McCormick and Bromberg. In 1935, his eldest son, Henri L. Bromberg, Jr., after graduating from The University of Texas and Northwestern University (where McCormick’s son was dean of the law school) joined the firm.

In 1952, Henri Sr.’s nephew, Alan R. Bromberg, after graduating Harvard University and Yale Law School, joined the firm (then known as Johnson, Bromberg, Leeds & Riggs) – leaving several years thereafter to become a professor of law at Southern Methodist University. (Alan has, since 1983, been University Distinguished Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University and is of counsel with the Dallas law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist.)

In 1972, Henri Sr.’s grandson (and Henri Jr.’s nephew), John E. Bromberg, after graduating Columbia University and The University of Texas School of Law, joined the firm, leaving December 31, 1983 at the invitation of Myron D. Stutzman and Sander L. Esserman to form the firm.

As the year 2006 progresses, it marks the 102nd consecutive year a Bromberg family member has been engaged in the practice of law in Dallas, Texas (and, since 1904, Bromberg family members have, collectively, logged in excess of 175 years of law practice in Dallas, Texas).
